6 Must Visit Parks in Denver

The sun is shining and it's time to get outdoors and enjoy summer! Denver is chock full of beautiful parks full of fun outdoor activities. As you plan your summer, look no further for a comprehensive list of where to go! 

Sloan's Lake

It's an outdoor lover's paradise with 177 acres of water, trails and a park. People can hike, jog or bicycle on the miles of trails as well as fish or boat on the lake itself. The park also includes basketball and tennis courts. Sloan's Lake hosts the annual Dragon Boat Festival on the lake which draws thousands of participants and spectators. 

 Washington Park

Outdoor enthusiasts love all the activities the 160 acres of Denver's Washington Park has to offer. People love the paved inner walking/running/biking loop of close to 2.5 miles, along with the outer unpaved walking/running trail closer to 3 miles long. Water enthusiasts love the multiple lakes where you can fish, kayak and paddle boat. You can also catch a game of tennis on the multiple courts or play a game of volleyball on the many courts which pop up in the grassy areas. There's an incredible recently renovated children's playground complete with swings, a sliding hill and plenty of play structures. There are many BBQ areas sprinkled throughout the park perfect for a get-together with friends. If lawn bowling or croquet is your thing, you're in luck as Wash Park boasts it's own lawn bowling court as well! Be sure to catch the formal flower gardens in all their glory during the summer! 

Congress Park

A sports lover's dream!  This park contains eight tennis and pickle ball courts, several baseball and softball fields, a children's playground, a picnic pavilion, and one of Denver's public outdoor swimming pools, currently under renovation. There's plenty of open green space for a soccer, frisbee or lacrosse game as well. 

 Cheesman Park

Filled with lots of green space and relatively quiet, Cheesman Park is ideal for relaxing on a sunny Denver day. The Pavilion built in 1910 is the highlight, perched on top of what used to be called Prospect Hill. There are interior paved and exterior unpaved walking/jogging/biking paths. There is also a small playground for kids. Most park-goers love the open space for playing lawn games like frisbee and walking their dogs. Behind the park is the beautiful Denver Botanic Gardens where you can check out stunning plant and flower exhibits. 

City Park

This centrally located Denver park mixes huge grassy lawns and areas filled with trees. Nearby you'll find the Denver Zoo and Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Evenings in the spring and summer bring lots of sports enthusiasts to the park to play every sport imaginable from soccer, softball, baseball, flag football, lacrosse and kickball. The park also boasts some fun water fountains that kids like to play in - a bit of a splash pad but with some serious power. There are two ponds in the park and fishing is allowed. Many festivals take place in the park, including the extremely popular City Park Jazz, a free Sunday evening concert serious which happens during the summer. 

Observatory Park

This park is home to the historic Chamberlin Observatory, an excellent place to check out the stars! The Observatory hosts different astrological nights where you can view through the sky and stars through the telescope and take in a tour of the facility. In addition to the observatory, the park hosts plenty of grassy space for various sports and dog walking/play. It has a fun kids playground with lots of sand, play and climbing structures and swings.
